Why You Need #Hashtags In Your Life!

Writing posts on social media can be draining and sometimes they will even go unnoticed.  Coming up with something that is successful on social media every single day, while running your business isn't the easiest of tasks.  Luckily there are hashtags to help you out!  A hashtag is simply a means to organize and advertise a thought, topic or idea. The more appealing the topic, the more likely the hashtag will be shared. With a little insight on how hashtags work you can play around with multiple ideas to see what helps you gain interest and generate interest on your page.  Using hashtags in a post is one sure way to help you expose your business to new audiences across all platforms.   However, many people don't know what a hashtag is, how to use them, or rules to hashtagging successfully.  So we are writing you this blog to make sure you are informed!

What is a hashtag?
Hashtags were created to organize a certain topic on social media.  If a reader would like to see more on #MarketingMondays all they have to do is type that into the search of the social platform they are on to see what other results come up.

How to use a hashtag:
There is no right or wrong way on how to #hashtag.  What you would normally do is write out what post you would like to use (the shorter, the better), and then either hashtag important parts on the post or add three to four hashtags at the end that highlight what the post is about.  It doesn't always have to be about business, it could be something as general as #MotivationMonday or as specific as #BloominMonday

Rules to hashtagging:
  1. Informative hashtags do better than hashtags that are too broad. Make sure they give insight on the topic and don't leave people questioning what the hashtag means.
  2. Always make sure you proofread your hashtags!  Since it needs to be one word there leaves a lot of room for spelling errors or epic misreading.  Prime example was the release of the Susan Boyle album using #susanalbumparty.
  3. Incorporate hashtags into your marketing plan.  Place it on your marketing material, website and wherever else business associated information can be.
  4. Fun one-time trending tags like #WaitressProblems, #RestaurantLife and #ChefProblems can provide an opportunity for your marketing message to gain traction on the web and a laugh.  In the same boat; contributing messages of support to trending disaster-related hashtags can help followers see your business in a new light.
  5. Live tweeting during a major event will let your followers know what they are missing out on!  Having a Happy Hour?  Ask your customers to tweet while they are there using a specific hashtag to raise relevance within the social community.
  6. Nobody likes to spell check... especially a long word.  K.I.S.S.; Keep it simple sweetheart!
  7. Limit the number of hashtags you use and work them into the sentence to help with limited character use!
    Good Example:
#‎mobilegeddon are you ready for it? #‎market your #‎business‬ right with #‎Ordereze. Read more on our blog http://bit.ly/1O8RhqQ
Bad Example: Mobilegeddon‬ are you ready for it? ‪Market‬ your ‪business‬ right with ‪‎Ordereze‬. Read more on our blog http://bit.ly/1O8RhqQ #Ordereze #Mobilegeddon #Marketing
  8. Remember why hashtags exist. It’s very easy to let the logistics of hashtag marketing strategy become a distraction. Hashtags exist as a means of allowing otherwise unconnected comments to share a common element, allowing people who don’t know each other to talk about the same thing together. The hashtag itself isn’t the message, it’s a tool that allows other people to share the message. If you are attempting to co-opt the trend without contributing to the conversation, people will notice.
  9. No one owns a hashtag!
  10. Avoid banned hashtags.  Although Twitter hasn't started to ban hastags yet there are lists out there for Instagram and other platforms that are big no-no's.

#Mobilegeddon – Google's Update And How It Can Effect Your Restaurant!

As business people, we all know, to succeed in any area in life we need to grow and change with consumer demands.  Google is doing the same to keep up with changing times and their competitors (Bing, Yahoo, etc).  The change is a good thing! Think about the last time you were on the road or looking up a website on your mobile phone.  Remember how you either got sites you had to zoom in and out of, or flash based sites where you can’t view anything?  This was designed to make search results on phones more appealing to the searcher.

The day coined as “Mobilegeddon” is planned to roll out tomorrow.  This algorithm was announced back in February.  Normally Google makes small updates to their algorithm very often without mentioning it to the public.  By the hype of this update, it seems that this will have a relatively big impact on businesses and how they attract their customers via web.

We have a list of common questions and concerns that have been answered over the past two-months around this algorithm.
Schwartz, Barry: Citing Sources: [http://searchengineland.com/tomorrow-is-mobilegeddon-are-you-ready-for-the-google-mobile-friendly-update-219291]: April 20, 2015]

1. When is Google releasing the mobile-friendly algorithm?
The algorithm is launching tomorrow, April 21st. I checked in with Google this morning and they confirmed they are still on schedule with tomorrow.

2. What is this algorithmic update, who will it impact?
This update will impact only mobile searchers and it will give a ranking boost to mobile-friendly pages in Google’s mobile search results only.

3.  Will it impact desktop searchers? Will my desktop rankings drop?
No, it will only impact mobile searchers and will have no impact on your desktop rankings.

4. Will it impact tablet searchers?
No, this only impacts searches done on mobile smartphone devices, not tablets.

5.  How do I know if my site is mobile friendly?
There are a few ways but the only way to know if your site is already indexed by Google as mobile friendly is to see if your site has the mobile friendly label in the mobile search results. Using the mobile friendly testing tool will show if you pass the test, but Google may still need some time to update their index to pick up on the fact that your web pages are mobile friendly. You can also use the mobile usability reports within Google Webmaster Tools, but those can be fairly delayed.

6.  Didn’t Google release a mobile ranking algorithm in 2013?

Yes they did, but that was specific around core issues accessing a mobile site, this is expanding on that around mobile usability issues.

7.  When did we first hear about these new mobile ranking changes?
In December 2014, Google told us they are experimenting with a new mobile friendly ranking algorithm.

8. Is the mobile friendly algorithm site-wide or on a web page by web page basis?
The mobile friendly algorithm is on a page by page basis. So even if only some of your web pages are not mobile friendly, some can benefit from this algorithm.

9. Is this a real-time or delayed algorithm?
Unlike Panda or Penguin, the mobile friendly algorithm is run in real time. Sometimes the mobile friendly label can be delayed in showing up in the search results, but Google will pick up on those changes in real time.

10. If I make my site mobile friendly today, how long will it take Google to pick up on those changes?
As we said above, the algorithm is real time. We also explained above that Google has to crawl your web pages to determine if they are mobile friendly. Early tests show that it can take anywhere from a few hours to over 72-hours if you do everything right for Google to show your web pages as mobile friendly. I would not be surprised if large sites can take up to a month to be displayed as fully mobile friendly. So make sure your most important pages are indexed as mobile friendly sooner than later.

11. Will Google News, Local Results, In The News, Videos, be impacted by this algorithm?
No, only the core web search results will be impacted, not the local pack, not Google News or other vertical searches, until those departments decide to make a change.

12. Can you be partially mobile friendly according to Google?
No, a web page is only mobile friendly or not mobile friendly, you cannot be more or less mobile friendly than another web page. It is a yes or no on being mobile friendly or not.

13. Will my non mobile friendly web site drop in the rankings tomorrow, April 21st?
Not necessarily. Google said it can take a few weeks for the algorithm to roll out. So you might not notice the change for a few days to a few weeks.

14. After it does roll out, how badly will my non mobile site be impacted?
Truth is, it is unknown right now. We were told it will be more significant than both the Panda and Penguin algorithms, which may mean that more than 11% of the search results will change from this.

15. What about site speed? If my mobile site is slow but my desktop site is fast, will I be negatively impacted?
Currently no, you won’t. Several desktop signals still actually power mobile ranking. So slow mobile sites with fast desktop counterparts are one of those examples.

16. Will large brand or navigational related mobile queries be impacted?

Not really. If a large brand has not gone mobile friendly and a searcher is looking for them in Google’s mobile results, Google will still likely rank that brand in the first position even if the page is not mobile friendly. Ultimately, relevancy is more important and it outweighs this mobile algorithm. So if Home Depot was not mobile friendly and you searched for [home depot] on your iPhone tomorrow, it would still rank number one.

17. Didn’t Android Apps already go live with this mobile friendly algorithm?

Yes, in February when Google announced the mobile friendly upgrade, Android apps installed on devices would benefit if the Android searcher is signed in. This past week, even non installed apps also began benefiting from this mobile friendly algorithm.

18. What are the most common mobile SEO mistakes?
Google published a document with the top seven mistakes webmasters make when going mobile friendly.

19. Will Google delist my site from search if I do not go mobile friendly?
Absolutely not. Although there are shady SEOs saying so.

20. Do you need a special mobile sitemap file?
No, in fact, most mobile sites do not need a separate mobile sitemap at all.

21. Will this impact AdWords ads?
No, this is only for organic listings, AdWords may have their own mobile factors but this is unrelated.

8 Successful Ways To Help Increase Foot Traffic On Cinco De Mayo!

You know what’s better than celebrating Cinco de Mayo? A successful increase of sales and foot traffic into your establishment!  Allowing you to enjoy dia de la fiesta in more than one way… so let’s get this celebration started early! Just like you don’t have to be an Irish Pub to celebrate St. Patty’s Day, you don’t have to be a Mexican restaurant to help your customers celebrate.

It’s time to start planning the festivities and here are 8 tips on how to make your Cinco de Mayo a successful one!
  1. The main goal here is to throw a celebration that everyone walks away wanting to come back next year.
Always get feedback from your wait staff and see what their ideas are.  Your employees love feeling like their ideas were heard and put more into an event when they feel that they are a part of it.  Plus, they are the ones who deal with the customers hands on and will be able to help you come up with more than just your basic marketing efforts.
  2. Food is everything!
It doesn’t matter what type of establishment you run on this day.  Some ideas as simple as mini tacos, or throwing a best seller into a taco shell can help.  To get more inventive, there are a million tastes from south of the border that are worth a try; Tortilla Soup, Red Rice, Chipotle Chicken, Empanadas, or even Churros.

  3. Cinco De Drinko
Cinco de Mayo is a great opportunity to challenge your guests to try something other than their usual beer or mixed drink, so encourage your staff to get creative and wow your customers with a signature beverage they can’t resist! Create a special 'rita' menu and be creative. What could you add? Any fruit works but what else? Cinnamon? Ginger? Click here to see what others are doing to spice things up! Another idea is to bring in different Mexican beers.  Don't know where to start? Just ask your supplier what you can bring in on special. Some of the most popular brands you will come by are ones like: Tecate, Sol, Carta Blanca, Dos Equis, Modelo Especial, Victoria, Negra Modelo, Corona, and Estrella.  Whatever you decide to do, play up the number 5.  This can be implemented in any number of ways, from a “buy 4 get the 5th free,” 5% discounts, $5 appetizer with the purchase of a Margarita, $5 Top Shelf Margarita, a $5 Mexican Beer and Tequila Shot Combo, or a $5 “solo para ti” or "just for you" Promotion.  Nothing says celebration like a great drink special!

  4. La semana del Cinco de Mayo
Start the party early by celebrating “Cinco de Mayo Week”. Your customers might already have plans to go somewhere else or stay in because it is a work night.  Give them the opportunity to celebrate without the worry of them drinking too much the night before.  Make your Cinco de Mayo specials available on the weekend and then have a better deal the night of.
  5. Fiesta Time!
A fiesta isn't a fiesta without costumes, music, food, and drinks.  This is an all encompassing event that you shouldn't skimp on.  The atmosphere is everything to ensure your customers are having a spectacular time.  Give out Sombreros to wear, mini pinatas, or Mustache straws.
  6. Tequila, Beer, or Margarita Flights
Offer on the Sunday after a beer, tequila, or margarita flight taste testing to help move any of the extra alcohol you might have purchased.  This can be an exclusive event meant only for your loyal mailing list customers or for anyone who comes in!

  7. Reward Your Amigos
People love to get recognized by helping you out; it's in our human nature.  Let anyone who comes in and checks in on Facebook, tweets about your restaurant, or gives you a review an extra 15% off their bill.  This will help you get your brand onto more potential customers' timelines without too much effort.
  8. Come up with some Cinco de Mayo contest ideas:
    - Best #cincodemayoatbusinessnameselfie, you can encourage these people to post and a winner will be picked to join you guys again with a coupon
    - Taste contest!  If the customer can guess the brand name of a shot of tequila or beer, they get their next one free
    - Half off appetizers to anyone who checks in at your establishment
    - Parties of 6 or more get complimentary guacamole and chips

Good luck with your Fiesta and let us know your feedback.  We always love hearing from our customers!
